NIAGARA FALLS TOUR IN THE RAIN
When you book a Niagara Falls tour with us you can rest assured that your tour will happen on time and on schedule.
While severe enough weather could change, post pone or even cancel a tour, this has not happened to us in years for 3 reasons:
- Our tours fun daily during the spring, summer and fall months when weather is less of a factor.
- Our tours of Niagara Falls run rain or shine.
- Niagara Falls is a beautiful and worthwhile place to explore no matter how wet you get. If rain is in the forecast for the day of your tour we have some recommendations.
5 TIPS FOR VISITING NIAGARA FALLS IN THE RAIN
- Prepare and dress for the weather. The elements are only a factor for those who lack preparation. Check the local Niagara Falls weather forecast ahead of your visit and if rain is expected make sure to pack umbrellas, proper footwear and water proof clothing.
- Put those complimentary ponchos to good use. At the start of both the Journey Behind The Falls (included in our adventure package) and Hornblower Boat Cruise (included in all tour packages) everyone will receive a free rain poncho to wear and stay dry with. The best part is they’re yours to keep and take home with you as a souvenir (and wear for the rest of the day if it’s raining). Note: Walk Niagara Tours offers these complimentary ponchos to anyone who needs one before the tour even begins so you won’t need to wait for the attractions to receive one.
- Enjoy the shorter lines at attractions. The rain doesn’t shut many things down in Niagara Falls but it can filter out those people who may be made of sugar. :) So while attractions will remain open, the lines likely won’t be as long so save some time and enjoy more experiences.
- Take advantage of reduced foot and vehicle traffic. Niagara Parks and the City of Niagara Falls have both done an excellent job of ensuring there is ample space surrounding Niagara Falls to there is room for all. Having said that, there are a few areas that can get congested on busy days such as at the edge of the Horseshoe Falls and Clifton Hill. While it’s raining these places can become less crowded and more enjoyable to explore (especially if you’ve listened to tips 1 and 2 above!)
- Enjoy some of the wonderful indoor activities in Niagara Falls. We share many examples of this further below, and while they’re fantastic options regardless of the weather they become especially appealing for those seeking shelter from the rain.
Visiting Niagara Falls in the rain can actually be a wonderful and unique experience! Besides, with the mist from the falls already being pretty intense, a little rain sometimes doesn’t make much of a difference. :)
WHAT CLOSES IN NIAGARA FALLS WHEN IT RAINS?
Short answer: not much!
Here are some answers from some of the most popular Niagara Falls activities.
Boat Tour: They sail rain or shine, offer an enclosed viewing area and in the case of severe weather, tours may be cancelled or postponed until the weather clears.
Journey Behind the Falls: Operation hours are not impacted by the rain.
Skylon Tower: The rain doesn’t impact whether they’re open or not (2) but it can impact the quality of the experience.
On a clear day you can see all the way to Toronto but on a rainy, foggy day you may have a hard time even getting a good look at the Falls 800 feet below.
Jet Boat Tours: Rain or shine! (3) If it’s raining they offer rain checks for those who would like to re-schedule their ride but do not offer refunds because of the rain. They also offer extra gear to passengers on rainy days to keep them drier and more comfortable. (4)
Ziplining: Rain or shine! (5) Like any outdoor activity, come dressed for the weather and you’ll have a great time.
